What we fix most

Stairlifts are simple machines. Nine out of ten calls are one of these.

  • Batteries

Slow, sluggish, or dies partway up. Batteries last three to five years. We carry replacements for the common brands on the truck.

  • Charging contacts

The lift beeps or will not charge. Contacts wear or get dirty, especially on older Bruno units. Cleaned or replaced in one visit.

  • Seat and footrest switches

Lift will not move. Usually a swivel interlock or footrest sensor out of adjustment. Quick fix once diagnosed.

  • Remotes and call stations

Lost, dead, or unpaired remotes. We supply and program replacements.

  • Rail and bracket adjustments

New noises, a rough spot in the ride, or a bracket that has loosened as the house settled.

  • Lifts from closed dealers

If the company that installed your lift is gone, we can usually take over service and find parts.

Keeping your stairlift healthy between visits

  • Leave it plugged in and switched on. The lift runs on its batteries even when plugged in. Switching it off at the wall is the fastest way to kill a battery.
  • Park it at a charging point. Most lifts only charge at the top and bottom. Stopping halfway and leaving it there drains the battery.
  • Keep the rail clear. Shoes, a cane, or a cat toy on the rail will stop the lift. That is the safety sensor doing its job.
  • Wipe down the rail. A dry or lightly damp cloth. No oils or sprays unless the manual calls for them; some drives are meant to run dry.
  • Listen for new noises. A click or grind that was not there last month is worth a call before it becomes a stranded ride.
  • Book an annual visit. Especially for lifts more than three years old. Our service plans include it.

Service calls are a flat $195 for stairlifts plus mileage, with parts quoted before we install them. Lifts under our warranty are serviced at no charge. Call (717) 219-7976 or send a request and tell us the brand and what it is doing.

Common stairlift problems

My stairlift is beeping. What does it mean?

Usually the lift is not charging. Check that it is plugged in, the wall switch is on, and the chair is parked all the way at a charging point at the top or bottom. If it still beeps, the batteries or the charging contacts need attention. Call us; it is the most common repair we do.

My stairlift stopped halfway up the stairs. What do I do?

First check the seat: most lifts will not move unless the seat is swiveled back and locked facing forward, the footrest is down, and nothing is blocking the rail. Then try the remote. If it still will not move, the batteries may be too low. Call us and we will talk you through it or come out.

Do you repair stairlifts you did not install?

Yes. We service Savaria, Harmar, Bruno, Handicare, Acorn, and most other brands across central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland, including lifts from dealers that have gone out of business.

What does a service call cost?

A stairlift service call is a flat $195 plus mileage, not an hourly rate. That covers the trip, the diagnosis, and the labor for most repairs. Parts such as batteries are extra and quoted before we install them. Repairs on lifts under our warranty are no charge.

How often should a stairlift be serviced?

Once a year. An annual check catches worn charging contacts, tired batteries, and loose brackets before they strand anyone. Batteries typically last three to five years.

Can you move my stairlift to a new house?

Straight lifts, yes. We remove it, recut or replace the rail for the new staircase, and reinstall it. Curved rails cannot be reused.
