New, used, or rent? A quick guide

  • Buy new if

You expect years of daily use, want a folding rail or powered seat, or the rider is over what a used unit is rated for. The K2's 3 year warranty and low maintenance pay off over time.

  • Buy pre-owned if

The budget is the deciding factor, the need may be a few years rather than many, and a good unit is in stock. Ask us what we have this week.

  • Rent if

Someone is recovering from surgery or staying for a season. $1,295 covers install, removal, and the first three months, then $150 a month. See stairlift rental.

Why we no longer install Bruno

People ask, since Bruno is a familiar name and we used to sell it. The ride is quiet and the motors rarely fail. The trouble is the charging contacts, which need regular cleaning to charge properly. When they are neglected the lift starts erratically and the batteries suffer, and that turned into too many service calls for our customers. We still service Bruno lifts, and we will recondition a good one for resale, but for new installs we moved to Savaria, whose rail charges continuously and avoids the issue.

Questions we hear every week

How much is a used stairlift?

Certified pre-owned straight stairlifts run $1,600 to $4,500 installed, depending on the model, age, and rail length. That is usually 40 to 60 percent of the new price.

What does certified pre-owned mean at Keystone?

The lift came out of a local home, usually because the owner moved or no longer needed it. We inspect the drive, rail, and safety sensors, replace the batteries, clean and recondition the chair, cut the rail for your staircase, and back it with a 3 month service warranty.

Is a used stairlift safe?

Yes, when it has been inspected and reinstalled by a trained technician. Stairlifts are simple machines; the parts that wear are the batteries and the charging contacts, and we replace or service both before the lift goes back in a home.

When should I buy new instead of used?

Buy new if you expect to use the lift for many years, if you need a specific option like a folding rail or a powered swivel seat, or if the rider is heavier than a used unit is rated for. Buy used if the need might be shorter, the budget is tight, or a good unit happens to be in stock. Renting is a third option for recoveries and short stays.

Do you buy back stairlifts?

Sometimes, for models we can recondition and resell. Call with the brand, model, and age. Lifts we installed ourselves are the easiest for us to take back.
