How it goes
- Call or send the form. We check that a rental unit is available and set up a free visit to measure your stairs.
- Sign and pay the $1,295. We schedule installation, usually within a week or two.
- Installation, about three hours. Rail cut for your stairs, chair fitted, controls explained. Ride it that day.
- Use it as long as you need. Repairs are covered the whole time.
- Give 30 days notice. We remove it in under an hour. Nothing else to do.
Who rents a stairlift
A wider range of people than you might think.
Recovering from surgery
Hip and knee replacements, heart surgery, a broken ankle. Three months of safe stairs while you heal, then it goes away.
A parent staying for a season
Families bringing a parent home for the winter or after a hospital stay. The lift makes the guest room upstairs usable.
Not sure yet
Some people rent while they decide whether to buy, move, or build a main-floor bedroom. Others rent for years and are happy to.

Renting versus buying
A new straight stairlift costs $2,900 to $8,000 installed, and certified pre-owned units run $1,600 to $4,500. If you know you will need the lift for more than about two years, buying is usually the better deal, and financing from $59 a month can spread it out. If the need is shorter or uncertain, renting avoids a purchase you may not need. Either way, the online stairlift quote shows you the purchase price in a few minutes so you can compare.
Every rental is installed by a licensed Keystone technician and covered by warranty for the entire rental. See new and used stairlifts for the purchase options.
Questions we hear every week
How much does it cost to rent a stairlift?
$1,295 to start, which covers professional installation, removal when you are done, and the first three months. After that it is $150 a month for as long as you need it. A mileage charge applies beyond 30 miles of our service area.
Is there a minimum rental period?
Three months. After that you are month to month. Give us 30 days notice and we come take it out at no extra charge, since removal was included up front.
What kind of stairlift do I get?
A straight stairlift, usually a Savaria K2, from our rental fleet. It is installed exactly like a purchased lift, with the rail cut for your stairs, two remotes, and a walkthrough of the controls.
Can I rent a curved stairlift?
No. Curved rails are built for one staircase and cannot be reused, so there is no rental option for curved stairs. If your staircase has a landing, we can sometimes rent two straight lifts.
What if something breaks during the rental?
Repairs are covered for the entire rental. Call us and we fix it.
Can I buy the stairlift at the end?
Often yes. If you decide you want to keep it, we will quote you a purchase price for that unit or for a new K2, and talk about how the rent you have paid factors in.
