Savaria stairlifts: the K2 is the lift we trust most

Quiet, rugged, and narrow when folded, the Savaria K2 is the straight stairlift we install more than any other. The K2 Plus adds a bigger seat and a 400 lb rating. The Stairfriend handles curved stairs. All three are installed and serviced by our own team.

Why the K2 is our recommendation

We have installed and serviced every major brand. The K2 is the one that keeps working with the least attention.

  • Built heavier than it needs to be

A 350 lb rating on the standard model means the drive is not working at its limit for most riders. Less strain, longer life.

  • Charging that does not fail

The K2 charges along the whole rail rather than at a single contact point, which removes the most common cause of service calls on other brands.

  • 10.75 inches folded

Seat, arms, and footrest fold flat so everyone else can use the stairs normally. It also matters in narrow townhouse staircases.

  • Folding rail option

If the stairs end at a doorway or hall, the bottom section of rail lifts out of the way. Manual, so there is no extra motor to fail.

  • Works through an outage

Battery powered with continuous charging. If the power goes out the lift keeps running for many trips.

  • Service we can keep up with

Simple mechanics mean most service visits are a battery or an adjustment, done in one trip. We keep K2 parts on the shelf.

Price and what is included

A Savaria K2 installed on a typical 13 to 14 step staircase runs about $3,700 to $4,500. Longer rails, the folding rail option, the upgraded V seat, or an outdoor package add to that. The K2 Plus costs more than the standard K2 because of the larger seat and heavier rating. Every price we quote includes delivery, installation by our own team, two remotes, and the first year of service.

Pre-owned K2 units come through our shop regularly. They are inspected, cleaned, fitted with a fresh battery, and sold with a service warranty. If you are flexible on timing, ask whether one is available. See new and used stairlifts.

If you want a price before anyone comes out, the online stairlift quote is built around the K2 and takes about ten minutes.

Questions we hear every week

Why do you recommend the Savaria K2 over other brands?

Durability. The K2 uses a simple rack-and-pinion drive with continuous charging along the rail, which means fewer of the charging-contact problems that send technicians back to other brands. It also carries 350 lb at a price other makers charge for 300 lb. After installing stairlifts for 14 years, it is the one we would put in our own parents' home.

How narrow is the K2 when folded?

10.75 inches from the wall with the seat, arms, and footrest folded. That leaves most staircases fully usable for everyone else in the house.

What is the difference between the K2 and the K2 Plus?

Same rail, same drive. The K2 Plus has a larger seat with adjustable arm width and is rated to 400 lb for residential use. It is the right choice for larger riders or anyone transferring from a wheelchair.

Does the K2 work during a power outage?

Yes. It runs on batteries that charge continuously while the lift is parked, so an outage does not strand anyone on the stairs. Keep the lift plugged in and switched on so the batteries stay topped up.

Can the rail fold up at the bottom?

Yes. The optional folding rail lifts the last section of track out of the way when the chair is parked at the top, so a doorway or hallway at the bottom of the stairs stays clear. It is the most common option we add.

Can the K2 go outdoors?

There is an outdoor package for moderate climates. It is a special-order item, so lead time is longer than a standard K2. Tell us at the consultation and we will plan for it.
