Savaria Delta: a wheelchair lift that rides the stairs

When there is no room beside the stairs for a vertical lift, the Delta runs on rails along the staircase itself. The platform folds flat against the wall when parked, so the stairs stay open for everyone else. Straight staircases only, 550 lb, battery powered.

What stands out

  • Uses the stairs you have

Rails mount along the staircase. No pit, pad, or hoistway, and no floor space taken on either landing.

  • Folds away

Platform, arms, and ramps fold against the wall. The stairway width is mostly preserved for walkers.

  • ADA capable

Meets ADA requirements for public buildings when configured for them.

  • Battery powered

Charges while parked; keeps running if the power goes out.

  • Indoor or outdoor

Moderate climates outdoors with the weather-resistant finish.

  • Curved stairs

The Delta is straight-only. For curved or multi-landing stairs, Savaria's Pegasus replaced the Omega; we quote it per staircase.

Is the Delta right for your stairs?

It needs a straight flight with a constant slope, a wall or posts to carry the rail, and enough width that the folded platform does not block the stairs below code minimums. We check all three at the site visit, along with the landing room needed to roll on and off. For a single rider who can transfer to a seat, a stairlift costs far less; the Delta is for riders who stay in the chair. Compare with a vertical platform lift if there is floor space beside the stairs.

Questions we hear every week

Can the Delta handle a landing or turn?

No. It is for straight stairs. Curved and multi-landing staircases use the Savaria Pegasus, which we quote individually.

How wide do the stairs have to be?

It depends on the platform size and local code for remaining stair width when folded. Most commercial stairs of 44 inches or more work; we confirm on site.

Does it work in a power outage?

Yes. It runs on batteries that charge at the parking stations.
